Alkaline-based foods balance your body's PH to
cleanse and boost energy.
Why do you care?
- Human blood pH should be slightly alkaline (7.35 - 7.45).
Below or above this range may produce health symptoms and
lead to dis-ease.
- Plants are the best way to get alkaline-based foods - they
supply live enzymes, amino acids and vitamins that your bodies
need and in a format that is easy to digest.
- Digestion takes the most energy of any process in your body.
The body can focus on healing, repair and cleansing when it
has a break from the difficult task of digesting food - especially
meat, dairy & poorly combined foods.1
- Stress and negative emotions also create an acidic balance
in your body so remember to practice deep breathing and meditation.

The Know How
- An ideal cleansing diet consists of 60%-80% alkaline-producing
foods and no more than 40% acid-producing foods.
- Acidic foods to limit or avoid include meat and dairy products,
high sugar and processed foods. Your body will store excess
acid in your fat cells (which is why so many people have such
trouble losing weight). Over time, your body will leach calcium
and alkaline stores from your bones in a desperate attempt
to retain the pH balance in your body (which is why some people
"shrink" as they get older).2
- Alkaline-producing foods - most fruits, vegetables, sprouts,
legumes, nuts and seeds.
- Whole foods are healthy and helpful in disease prevention
while Power Foods provide and extra dose of protection, healing
and nutrition. 3
- Best Power Foods:
- Cruciferous Vegetable - broccoli, cabbage, kale,
bok choy and cauliflower to name a few. Phytonutrients
in these vegetables work to prevent cancer. Lightly steam
with additional Power Foods, garlic and ginger to make
these veggies even easier to digest.
- Flax seed and flax seed oil. Lignans found in
flax seeds are said to have anti-cancer, antibacterial
and antiviral properties. The mild estrogenic properties
of flaxseeds have been found to help regulate abnormal
menstrual cycles and prevent breast cancer. 4
Flaxseed oil is the highest single food source or Omega
3 fatty acid, said to help prevent high blood pressure,
high cholesterol, auto-immune disease, allergies and inflammation.
- Sprouts - including alfalfa, buckwheat, sunflower,
clover and mung bean. Sprouts are bursting with an incredible
amount of nutrients and are easy to digest. They are rich
in vitamins C and K and chlorophyll, are significant dietary
sources of phytoestrogens and lignans which play an important
role in preventing menopausal symptoms and heart-disease.
Know and Tell
- Donna has this Power Green Smoothie every morning! Blend
together 2 kale leaves without the stem, juice of ½
lemon (very alkaline), ½ cucumber (total hydration
for your skin), 1-2 cups frozen pineapple, ½ cup sunflower
or buckwheat sprouts (protein and energy), 2 tbsp ground flaxseed
or flaxseed oil, water to thin, add some organic honey to
sweeten and Greens + Powder for added energy! Go conquer the
world!
- Patti has learned she needs to work on the acidic vs. alkaline
balance in her body - ground flax seeds was an easy addition
to morning oatmeal, adding more "cooling" foods
like cucumber and apples was no problem. She has "greened"
her daily smoothie for a simple way to eat her greens it doesn't
always look pretty ... but it's what's on the inside that
counts ... right?
- Tamey has never really spent much time thinking about the
foods she eats; basically she tries to get a balanced diet
with plenty of fruits and veggies. She has taken to drinking
Greens in the morning and loves the boost of energy she gets.
She's not sure her juvenile taste buds can handle Donna's
Power Green Smoothie!
