Lotion

Brand Name: Rocky Mountain Soap Company
Product Name: Body Butter - Unscented for Eczema This product is fragrance-free!
Cost: $11.49 for 2 oz
Where did we get it? Where have we seen it?: On-line at Rocky Mountain Soap Company
Tester: Rory (Tamey's 2 year old)
Rating (out of 5): 5.0
Comments: This is a wonderful product. My 2 year old has eczema in the winter; his poor little legs have large dry patches that are generally scabbed from scratching. This product when applied twice a day gets rid of those terrible patches. I had tried several natural products and his legs where so bad that all of them caused pain when applied, no such problem with this lotion. An added bonus is the wonderful applicator no mess no fuss! How this happens with just three natural ingredients is beyond me, but it does!

Ingredients: vegetable oil, Alberta beeswax and cocoa butter (theobroma cacao)

Brand Name: Shea Butter Market
Product Name: Shea Lav - Authentic African Shea Butter
Cost: $25.00 for 60ml/2 oz
Where did we get it? Where have we seen it?: Natural Health food store
Tester: Patti / Claire
Rating (out of 5): 4.0
Comments: This product is interesting on 2 fronts. First, it is an effective moisturizer - particularly soothing to dry skin during our "drying" winters. Shea Butter itself is filled with fatty acids that stimulate skin renewal, tocopherols that have natural antioxidant properties and cinnamic acid, which provides UV protection. Although the adults in the house use this products, it is also effective on my 7 years old rosy dry cheeks in the winter. After a day outside in the winter weather, those smooshy cheeks need a bit of attention. I have also applied before going outside to give more protection. It’s a bit greasy/shiny but isn’t a problem for Claire.

Ingredients: Pure African Shea butter, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, essential oil of lavender, beeswax.

Hair Care

Brand Name: TweenBeauty

Product Name: Orange Sherbet Shampoo / Grapefruit Mint

Cost: $9.99

Where did we get it? Where have we seen it?: Lilou Organics

Tester: Ally (7) and Claire (6 1/2)

Rating (out of 5): 4.5

Comments: Ally and Claire love the smell of this shampoo and the Mom's like that the girls enjoy getting their hair washed with this shampoo. It lathers really nicely and rinses easily. Also since using this shampoo and conditioner combo neither of the girls has had to use a detangler in their hair. Tamey has also been known to sneak some once in awhile. But there are some suspect ingredients in this kid-friendly shampoo – like Benzyl Alcohol (a skin irritant) and Phenoxyethanol ( a coal tar derivative) – which has been “concluded safe” by the Cosmetic Ingredients Review Panel.

Rating (out of 5): 4.5

Comments: Ally and Claire loved the smell of the conditioner. And Moms liked the fact that it took the knots out of her long hair! But there are some suspect ingredients in this kid-friendly product – like Polysorbate 60, Benzyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol – which all have been “concluded safe” by the Cosmetic Ingredients Review Panel, but have been associated with 1,4 dioxane, a known carcinogen in animals.

Coconut Lime: Organic Herbal Infusion [Purified Water, Extract of Organic White Tea (Camellia Sinensis) Leaf, Extract of Organic Oats, Extract of Organic Sage (Salvia Officinalis) Leaf, Extract of Organic St. John's Wort (Hypericum Perforatum), Extract of Organic Hibiscus (Hibiscus Sabdariffa) Flower], Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Behenalkonium Chloride, Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) Oil, Wheat Amino Acids, Potassium Sorbate, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 60, Guar Hydroproxypyltrimonium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Benzyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Natural Fragrance.
