Rating (out of 5): 4.5 and 5.0
Comments by Tamey: This is a very nice shampoo I used
the whole bottle, so that's saying something. This is also the shampoo that
I had been using when my hairdresser mentioned the hair growth - a very
good thing. Has a nice light scent. But remember those suds are few and
far between.
Comments by Patti:This shampoo is for me - it has a nice
scent, a good lather and leaves my hair soft and feeling clean. It's a bit
pricy for use by all the heads in my family of 5, particularly given the
boys tend to glob it on - so I hide it behind other shampoos and it lasts
me much longer.

Comments: Great Canadian made shampoo, gives my thin hair
bounce and shine. I'm going to order the large size the next time as I think
my shampoo testing days are over. I also love the fact that I can pronounce
all the ingredients - very refreshing! Also wanted to mention for those
of you who are scent adverse Druide makes a scent free shampoo (Pur &
Pure).

Comments: This shampoo has no SLS and claims to use henna
extracts to bring out your natural highlights. I wanted to try this shampoo
and matching conditioner to work with my natural hair colour (and my highlighted
hair). I have not used up this product and I have had it for over a year
- it did not work well with my hair. Funny thing about the ingredient list
though - I looked up the ingredients on the internet and found at least
4 different formulations. The one included below is the one from the label
- perhaps it is an older formulation and the ones on the web are newer -
but with the amount of variations I found, they must be constantly tinkering
with product. Lesson here - don't trust past products. Read the Jason labels
everytime!

Comments: This shampoo does not have Sodium Lauryl/Laureth
Sulfates or parabens (two of Patti
and Tamey's top six to avoid). It reports that it is safe for color
treated hair. This shampoo is relatively inexpensive and may be a choice
for the whole family hair needs. Caution with Jason brands as other shampoo
products from this manufacturer may have chemicals you don't want. Although
this shampoo appears pretty clean except for the DEA (see note below), the
Jason Shampoo Kids Only Mild Formula had PEG 80, Methyl- and Propyl-paraben,
and MEA. Our repeat advice is to read each and every label - even if the
manufacturer is the same, the ingredients in individual products may differ
- no mater how "natural" the company claims to be.
Note: Demethiconal - DEA is a skin softener and thickener and is readily
absorbed into the skin. DEA along with its relatives MEA and TEA are known
to combine with nitrates to form cancer-causing nitrosamines. If a product
contains nitrites (used as a preservative or present as a contaminant not
listed on labels) a chemical reaction can occur either during manufacturing
or after a product is made.

Product Name: Miss Treated Shampoo
Cost: $7.99 for 473ml /16oz

Tester: Patti
Rating (out of 5): 3.5
Comments: This shampoo does not contain SLS or parabens
(two of Patti and Tamey's top six to avoid). It is a product specifically
for hair that has been stressed by colouring or perms (perms?). Since my
hair is high/low-lighted (I admit it and am exploring natural ways to highlight
in the coming months) I wanted to try an alternative to the shampoos the
hair salon sells for coloured hair. It was fine - not any better than other
shampoos I tried but a better alternative to the chemical ridden products
from a salon and a lot less expensive (!)

Rating (out of 5): 4.0
Comments: This shampoo does not contain SLS or parabens
(two of Patti and Tamey's top six to avoid). A good everyday shampoo and
it does not contain DEA like its sister shampoo - Miss Treated. This is
the product that the boys in my family, who sometimes are a tough sell on
the "natural" stuff I bring into the house, use. It's gentle,
smells good i.e.: not medicinal) and the
lather is good.

Comments: When you choose to use shampoos without SLS,
you realize what SLS really does - it provide the suds and lather that makes
the cleaning agents of a shampoo easily work into your hair. Finding a SLS-free
shampoo that has some umpf to it with regards to lather can be a challenge.
This shampoo delivered in the sudsy department. It is a good everyday day
shampoo. It reports that it is gentle enough to use on colour-treated hair
and that the aloe actually moisturizes your scalp (we all know that aloe
is a healing pant - so that makes sense).
Note: MEA (monoethanolamine) is a skin softener and thickener and is readily
absorbed into the skin. MEA along with its relatives DEA and TEA are known
to combine with nitrates to form cancer-causing nitrosamines. If a product
contains nitrites (used as a preservative or present as a contaminant not
listed on labels) a chemical reaction can occur either during manufacturing
or after a product is made.
